And so it begins...
Welcome to the first installment in The Ranch Hand epic novel series! This project is the brainchild of Producer / Director / Screenwriter Rodney V. Earle, and promises to keep the reader wanting more and more as each installment is posted.
The novel was begun in mid-August of 2007, and continues to develop even today. Our characters are inspired by real persons, but the events are completely fictional.
Colleen Caldwell, our main character, is the owner of Triple C Ranch, a boarding and teaching facility located in the hills and valleys of beautiful Simi Valley, California. Colleen is a gorgeous young widow at thirty-two, with a passion for horses and a soft spot for the underdog.
Joan Caldwell, the mother of Colleen's dead husband lives at the Triple C with Colleen and works the accounting end of the business. Joan is the closest thing Colleen has had to a mother since her own died in a horrific car accident on Colleen's twelfth birthday (while Colleen was in the car). Joan often refers to Colleen as "the daughter she never had."
Our story begins on a hot, hung over, August Sunday morning following a "Girl's Night Out " with Colleen's best friend Sheila and the rest of the group who call themselves "The Four Musketeers" Colleen is training a young filly called "Trouble" by Triple C Ranch Foreman Carlos Guzman, when the horse suddenly goes crazy and nearly tramples Colleen to death.
From nowhere, a mysterious cowboy appears in the dust and saves the day, and then disappears before Colleen gets the chance to thank him. Colleen is rushed to the hospital where she meets August Riley, a woman with a troubled past, and Amy, a nurse with a heart and the knowledge of how to use it.
We follow Colleen's journey through recovery and meet her many friends, old and new. We even get to meet a few of her enemies along the way. We find out a little more about the mysterious cowboy as well.
Our story is a long one, friends. You may as well know that up front. If you are expecting to read the whole three-novel series online in one day, you will be sorely disappointed. I make no promises about how much of this series will be posted online beyond the first novel, but the intent for this story is that it will eventually be published in print.
